Power

The heart of the Ninja H2R is its liquid-cooled, four-stroke, in-line four-cylinder engine that displaces 998cc. This engine is equipped with a centrifugal-type supercharger that compresses air at up to 2.4 times atmospheric pressure, resulting in a higher air density and more oxygen for combustion. The supercharger was designed in-house by Kawasaki to match the engine characteristics, allowing for high-efficiency operation over a wide range of conditions. The supercharger also eliminates the need for a large, heavy intercooler that would otherwise reduce performance.

The engine delivers an incredible output of 310 horsepower at 14,000 rpm and 121.5 lb-ft of torque at 12,500 rpm. These numbers are achieved by using high-quality components such as forged pistons, steel connecting rods, titanium valves, dual injection fuel system, digital ignition, dog-ring transmission, and sealed chain final drive. The engine also features various electronic rider aids that enhance control and efficiency, such as Kawasaki Cornering Management Function (KCMF), Kawasaki TRaction Control (KTRC), Kawasaki Launch Control Mode (KLCM), Kawasaki Intelligent anti-lock Brake System (KIBS), Kawasaki Engine Brake Control (KEBC), and Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS) for upshifts and downshifts.

Performance

The power of the Ninja H2R is complemented by its performance-oriented chassis, The performance of the Ninja H2R is complemented by its performance-oriented chassis, which features a lightweight trellis frame and a swingarm mounting plate. The trellis frame provides rigidity and balance, while the swingarm mounting plate allows the exhaust silencer to be mounted closer to the bike's centerline, ensuring a high bank angle for sporty cornering. The frame also allows easy access to the engine and supercharger for maintenance and tuning.

The Ninja H2R also boasts a superb suspension and braking system, which provide smooth and precise handling. The front suspension consists of a 43mm inverted fork with adjustable rebound and compression damping, spring preload adjustability and top-out springs. The rear suspension features an Öhlins TTX36 gas charged shock with piggyback reservoir, 30-way compression and rebound damping and adjustability, and 16-way spring preload adjustability and top-out spring. The suspension settings are optimized for track performance, offering excellent feedback and stability.

The brakes are equally impressive, with dual radial-mount, opposed 4-piston Brembo Stylema calipers, dual semi-floating 330mm discs, and Kawasaki Intelligent anti-lock Brake System (KIBS) at the front. The rear brake has an opposed 2-piston caliper, a single 250mm disc, and KIBS as well. The KIBS is a high-precision system that monitors various parameters such as wheel speed, brake pressure, engine rpm, throttle position, and clutch actuation, and modulates brake pressure accordingly to prevent wheel lock-up and ensure optimal braking performance.

The wheels and tires are also specially designed for the Ninja H2R, offering optimal grip and stability at high speeds. The front wheel is a lightweight cast aluminum wheel with a 120/60 ZR17 V01F slick tire. The rear wheel is also a lightweight cast aluminum wheel with a 190/65 ZR17 V01R slick tire. These tires are specially developed by Bridgestone for the Ninja H2R, featuring a medium compound that can withstand the extreme heat generated by the supercharged engine.

Another distinctive feature of the Ninja H2R is its aerodynamic devices, which generate downforce and reduce drag at high speeds. The carbon fiber upper cowl has winglets that create negative lift (downforce) on the front wheel. The carbon fiber lower cowl has fins that reduce air resistance and improve airflow to the engine. The carbon fiber rear cowl has a large spoiler that also creates downforce on the rear wheel. These devices help the Ninja H2R maintain stability and traction on the track.

Advanced Electronics

The Ninja H2R is equipped with some of the most advanced electronics in the motorcycle industry, which enhance its performance and safety. One of the key components is the Bosch IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), which monitors inertia along 6 degrees of freedom (longitudinal, transverse, vertical, roll rate, pitch rate, yaw rate). The IMU works together with Kawasaki's dynamic modeling software, which uses a magic formula tire model to account for changing road and tire conditions. This allows the electronic rider aids to adjust various parameters accordingly to optimize riding modes.

Some of the electronic rider aids that benefit from the IMU are:

  • Kawasaki TRaction Control (KTRC), which has 9 modes to choose from depending on rider preference and track conditions. KTRC monitors wheel speed, engine rpm, throttle position, acceleration, brake pressure, clutch actuation, gear position, etc., and controls engine output to prevent wheelspin and maintain optimal traction.

  • Kawasaki Launch Control Mode (KLCM), which assists riders in launching from a stop by limiting engine rpm and optimizing torque delivery. KLCM has 3 modes to choose from depending on rider skill level and track conditions.

  • Kawasaki Engine Brake Control (KEBC), which allows riders to adjust the amount of engine braking according to their preference. KEBC has 3 modes: off (no engine braking), light (reduced engine braking), or strong (normal engine braking).

  • Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS), which enables clutchless upshifts and downshifts for seamless acceleration and deceleration. KQS detects when the shift lever is actuated and sends a signal to cut ignition so that the next gear can be engaged without using the clutch.

  • Kawasaki Intelligent anti-lock Brake System (KIBS), which we have already mentioned in the previous section.

In addition to these electronic rider aids, the Ninja H2R also features an Öhlins electronic steering damper, In addition to these electronic rider aids, the Ninja H2R also features an Öhlins electronic steering dampe
